本週我們來學習與語言學習相關的詞彙。

1. tongue/tʌŋ/

n. 語言

如：mother /native tongue 母語

I am proficient in Chinese which is my mother tongue.

The French feel passionately about their native tongue.

短語補充：

a slip of the tongue 口誤

e.g. I didn't mean to offend her; it was just a slip of the tongue.

e.g. During the presentation, I made a slip of the tongue and mispronounced a key word.

get your tongue round/around sth 正確發出﹙難讀單詞﹚的音:

e.g. Learning Russian can be challenging, especially trying to get my tongue around the pronunciation of names and places.

2. bilingual /baɪ'lɪŋgw(ə)

adj. 雙語的；能說兩種語言的

e.g. I am bilingual in English and Chinese.

e.g. The job posting requires candidates to be bilingual in both Mandarin and English.

n. bilingual n. 能說兩種語言的人

e.g. Studies have shown that bilinguals often have enhanced cognitive abilities compared to monolinguals.

其他補充：monolinguals 只會一種語言的人

trilingual 精通三種語言的人

polyglot通曉數種語言的人

3. lingua franca ˈlɪŋgwiˈfræŋki/

n. 母語不同的人之間使用的通用語，交際語，混合語

e.g. It is incontrovertible that English has become the lingua franca of the world in the fields of business, science, aviation, computing, education, politics and entertainment (and arguably many others).

如話題：Why do people learn English?

e.g. English, one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, is viewed as the lingua franca across various domains. Proficiency in English enables people to communicate effectively and access educational and professional opportunities.

4. immerse /ɪˈmɚs/

v.使自己潛心於；沉浸於…

補充：immerse oneself in ….

e.g. I try to immerse myself in Germany by watching TV shows, movies, and listening to music in that language.

e.g. Studying abroad allow students to fully immerse themselves in the local culture and language.

adj. immersive 沉浸式的

e.g. Studying abroad provides students an immersive language experience, allowing students to fully expose themselves to the local culture and language.

n. immersion (全部使用外語的）沉浸式外語教學

e.g. He learned French through immersion.

e.g. Apart from classroom instruction, we have never had any opportunities for immersion, which is a shame for language learners.
